Properties: white crystalline powder; a few are slightly stinky or special smell; bitter taste. Soluble in water or methanol, slightly soluble in ethanol. Its 10% aqueous solution of pH 3.0 - 5.5. Pharmacological actions: Inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, for most Gram-positive bacteria and some anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria have an antibacterial effect. Against Gram-positive bacteria antimicrobial activity similar to erythromycin, susceptible strains include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, green Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, diphtheria bacilli. Anaerobic bacteria were sensitive to this product, including Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Propionibacterium, Eubacterium, Bifidobacterium, Peptostreptococcus, most digestive bacteria, Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium tetani, and some actinomycetes and so on. Staphylococcus can slowly engender tolerance for this drug.
